We’re very excited about the January, 2012 issue of RDH Magazine because it features a topic we’ve been focusing on for years now- ergonomics! The article titled, Positioning for Success: Essential ergonomic guidelines for dental hygienists, by Bethany Valachi, PT, MS, CEAS, covers common ergonomic mistakes and how they can lead to musculoskeletal disorders.
Valachi explains, “From an ergonomic standpoint, the operator stool is the most important chair in the treatment room. Its adjustment can profoundly impact posture and musculoskeletal health.” The remainder of the article focuses on patient positioning, which is key in helping to prevent chronic pain or potential injury. Valachi details how to position the patient for various treatments, as she concludes, “taking the time to position the patient, hygienist, and equipment properly can not only have positive ramifications for the operator’s posture, comfort and career longevity- it can also lead to better treatment and increased productivity.”
A number of DentalEZ stools and chairs have been built specifically to enhance operator posture and patient positioning. You can visit www.DentalEZ.com to learn more about our ergonomic products!
